Minor Depressive Disorder

This disorder is proposed to refer to cases where an individual experiences one or more episodes of Depression that have more than two but less than 5 of the symptom criteria of a Major Depressive Episode for a period of 2 weeks. If the individual ever experiences a full-blown Major Depressive Episode, then the diagnosis would change to Major Depressive Disorder.

This is not a category that is officially recognized by the DSM-IV-TR but it is listed as a condition that merits further study.
