Nonaffective Acute Remitting Psychosis (NARP)

This diagnostic term refers to cases where symptoms similar to those found in Schizophrenia develop within a 2 week period and then resolve within 6 months or less [ref].

This diagnosis is not yet recognized by any official classification systems, such as the DSM-IV-TR or the ICD-10. However, there has been some good quality research showing that NARP seems to be a recognizable syndrome that is distinct from Schizophrenia and Mood Disorders, with a favourable course and prognosis [ref, ref, ref].
